Santa Marta Visitor Recommendations

Where to stay? What to eat? To do? If you are planning a trip to Santa Marta, below are some of our favorite recommendations for visitors to Santa Marta:

-Hotels & Hostels

  • La Brisa Loca-Downtown Santa Marta (next to the Scuba Carolina location)
  • La Brisa Tranquila-A great place to relax and get out of the city before or after diving.
  • Hotel Casa Verano-An excellent option for those looking for a quiet experience on the most beautiful beach in Santa Marta (adults only)

-Restaurants

  • Uhma-Charcuterie boards, fresh food, almost everything made on site including smoked ham, pastrami, pickles and wonderful cocktails, great option right after diving, located near the Santa Marta marina.
  • Serena Tropical Bistro-Beautiful new restaurant with the best view in the city of the port of Santa Marta. Great appetizers, a great place to watch the sunset.
  • Donde Chucho-If you’re in the mood for local seafood, this is the place to go. They have several locations, both downtown and two others in Rodadero, so it’s easy to get to them no matter where you stay. If you go, you must try the Chucho Grande, a nice twist on ceviche with smoked sting ray.

-Beaches & Other Activities

  • The Best Beach in Santa Marta- is located in a small neighborhood called Pozos Colorado between the airport and Rodadero. It is quiet, clean and safe and there are very few vendors on the beach.
  • The Best Beaches Outside of Tayrona- are located just outside the Tayrona border in the small towns of Los Angeles, Mendihuaca and Guachaca.
  • Hiking and Rivers-If you are looking for hikes and other adventures, we highly recommend this hiking group, as they put together unique affordable and personalized hiking tours along the coast between Santa Marta, Minca, and Palomino.
